ROYAL CHINA

Royal China Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Having my own blog, I never wrote reviews on Zomato. But off late, I saw the change in trend and the improvements that Zomato has inculcated. I took some time out and wrote a few reviews and posts. This effort was soon acknowledged by Zomato India and I was sent a gift voucher to dine at Royal China.

The ambiance is really elegant. The lighting is dim and the seating is red in color. They have these Chinese paintings hung on the walls giving it a very authentic look. This place has a huge seating capacity which was full even on a weekday during lunch hours.

CHICKEN WANTON SOUP
It is usually a super light, easy and comforting soup. This one had a bit of extra salt in it. Five chicken wantons were generously positioned in one bowl of the soup. The dumplings had a very thin coating and the meat was really tender. The crowded wantons, spring onions and lettuce made this is a heavy start to the meal.

CRISPY DUCK SPRING ROLL
Six pieces of deep fried spring rolls were served on a plate along with some shredded carrots. The covering of the rolls had the perfect crispy-crackly texture. Every bite of it made a pleasant crunchy sound. Duck meat when kept for a long time tends to become tough and rubbery. Surprisingly, the shredded duck meat within was also a bit tough which made it less appetizing. The thin pieces of cucumber did try to add a bit of softness to it. Overall it was a mediocre dish.

VEGETABLE LETTUCE WRAP
I have tried this dish at several places, but this one wasn’t that visually appealing. However, all’s well that ends well. Once the dish was constructed, all my despondency vanished. The diced carrots, water chestnuts, beans and American corn looked pretty and colorful. The plum sauce served was one of the best sauces that I have ever had. It was sweet and really thick. The crisp lettuce, the diced vegetables and the plum sauce, all three of them just made it a palatable dish.

AUBERGINE WITH HOT GARLIC SAUCE
Rectangular pieces of eggplant were cooked in a red hot garlic sauce. Usually a hot garlic sauces is meant to be spicy but this was surprisingly sweet. The pieces of aubergine were soft and cooked well. Not a fan of this vegetable, I just had a bite of it. But it was really tasty. I never knew that even brinjals can be made this appetizing.

FISH IN OYSTER CHILLI SAUCE
This dish was served on a sizzler plate. Generous portioned soft fish were accompanied by onions and topped with greens of spring onions . It was not that spicy and was definitely toothsome. The fish was perfectly cooked and the flavors also helped the dish express itself well.

VEGETARIAN SOYA NOODLES HONG KONG STYLE
Thin noodles were tossed in soya sauce along with sprouts and onions. Nothing astounding, this dish was the perfectly paired with all our main course dishes. The texture, the taste, everything was how it should be. There was nothing wrong with this dish but just that it tasted like the regular soya noodles that you get anywhere else.

HONEY NOODLES WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM
A massive plate arrived with two scoops of vanilla ice cream surrounded by loads of crispy noodles. The noodles were thin, crispy and light as a feather. Each bite made that satisfying crackling noise. The amount of sesame seeds was less but the proportion in which the honey was used, was just appropriate. It was the ideal ending to our meal.

SPECIAL MENTION
The staff was really co-operative and polite throughout our entire meal. The cutlery definitely deserves a special mention. It really made the dishes of Royal China look more “Royal”. Last but not the least, I would like to thank Zomato for this wonderful meal.
